Rockmelt: Yet Another Web Browser »

Just when you thought the web browser market was saturated, someone found a spot where another one could be squeezed in.

Make a little room between Google Chrome and Opera and you can shoehorn RockMelt into the mix. Yes, another way for people to view web pages and possibly another set of standards for which web designers have to prepare.

Rockmelt does have some pretty good backing, however. Do you remember the Netscape browser from the 1990s? The founder of that company, Marc Anderson, is a backer of Rockmelt.

Not much is known about Rockmelt at the moment and their website only has a spot where you can provide your email address to be sent more information. So we will have to wait and see.

At any rate, it faces a pretty packed market that already includes the likes of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari and Flock and a few others.

New Windows Version Officially Named »

After months of using the codename of Windows 7 for the “after Vista OS”, Microsoft officially announced that the name of the new version of Windows Operating system will be called – Windows 7.

Kind of an anti-climatic announcement, I suppose, but at least they are keeping things simple for users. Hopefully, you were not thinking it was going to be called Mojave.

Yahoo OnePlace for Mobile Browsers »

Yahoo is not sitting back waiting for the next bid from Microsoft.  They are launching new products and services. A new addition to the Yahoo Mobile family is called OnePlace and if your phone doubles as a web browser at times, you might want to check this out.

Face it, in their current form the mobile phone browsers are not really good for um.. browsing. Although they are getting better, in most cases you still are better off knowing exactly what you are looking for or exactly where you want to go so you can type in the URL. However, with Yahoo OnePlace, you can quickly and easily bookmark things that you want to have readily available when you are on the Internet using your phone’s browser.

You can do a lot more with it too. It is pretty lightweight so even the clunkiest of phone browsers should have no problem using it.

Good for Yahoo!

Windows Vista SP1 – Microsoft Still Going Backwards »

When is the last time you “upgraded” to the new and improved version of something and ended up with less functionality than you had with the old version? Probably when you purchased that new computer with Vista installed, right?

Well, just when life in Vista land was starting to get back to normal, Microsoft decided to stir the pot again.

According to a Microsoft Bulletin, upgrading your Vista Operating System to Vista SP1 could render some of the software you currently run either completely inoperable or allow it to run but with limited functionality.

If businesses were slow to upgrade to Vista before this latest news, they surely will drag their feet now.

It is no wonder that many of Microsoft’s partners are still offering Windows XP until June 30, 2008.
