WordPress Keyboard Shortcuts »

wordpress logoIf you use WordPress for your blogging software of choice, this post is for you. TipMonkies has posted a super list of WordPress keyboard shortcuts that I will definitely be making use of. I am sure this information has been out there for a while, but it is new to me – I’m kinda slow like that :) . For example, to make text bold, you can always highlight the text and click on the b button in the menu OR you can just highlight the text and hit Alt+SHIFT+b. Sweet!

Alt+SHIFT+q for Blockquote – nice.

Check out TipMonkies WordPress shortcuts for more. Thanks to Wendy from Lifehacker for finding this and posting about it.

Lenovo Will Pre-load Microsoft’s Web Toolbar »

Lenovo desktop computers and laptops will start showing up with the Web Toolbar from Microsoft pre-loaded. The two companies announced their deal yesterday. Until that announcement, Google was the default toolbar for Lenovo, so I am sure Microsoft is hooting and hollering for two reasons:

  1. They grabbed some share from Google
  2. This is the first deal of its kind for Microsoft

Under the agreement, Lenovo will set live.com as the default homepage for the computer’s Internet browser and it will add the Microsoft toolbar for web searching. Of course, the end-user can change these default settings but most users do not and that is why securing a deal like this is so important to companies in the Search Engine business.

Lenovo is the third-largest PC maker in the world (they bought IBM a few years ago) and so this deal should have an immediate impact on Microsoft’s share of the Search Engine market (currently, they are 3rd behind Yahoo and Google).

HP Says Not Quite to Linux Computers »

Not quite ready for the masses. That is the general consensus among HP executives regarding computers pre-loaded with a Linux operating system and offered to en-mass to consumers.

According to a post on DesktopLinux, HP says they are hearing a lot of Linux chatter on forums and other Internet sites and that indicates a growing interest on the part of the average consumer in having their next desktop computer or laptop run on a Linux OS. However, this chatter is simply not at the level that would warrant adding this type of machine to the standard HP offering.

HP does offer pre-loaded Linux machines to its enterprise customers already. But most of this type of interest is from businesses outside of the U.S. and North American markets. For example, a company in China recently agreed to purchase several thousand HP laptops pre-loaded with Novell’s SLED 10 (SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop) and there are other similar deals in the works with other Non-US based companies.

Of course, one can always order an HP computer and install a Linux OS themselves or wait for Dell to make their Linux offering available.

Reasons Why You Should Not Upgrade to Vista »

With so much hype about Vista, from its official launching to its Mac OSX-like GUI, you should be asking yourself these questions:

  1. Why should I upgrade to Vista?
  2. Why I should not upgrade to Vista?
  3. Which is better? XP or Vista?

APC Magazine ran a post on 10 reasons not to get Vista. The post touched on several of the following:

Cost
A quick search on PriceGrabber shows that XP is half the price cheaper than Vista (ALL editions). If you or your company cannot afford XP, needless to say, Vista is definitely out. A cheaper alternative would be using Linux Ubuntu.
