Opera Web Browser Version 10 »

Despite only having a 3 percent share of the web browser market, Opera remains undaunted by Internet Explorer and Firefox (60 percent and 30 percent respectively).

opera-web-browserOpera Version 10 has been in Beta since June and now it is ready for prime time Internet Browsing. It boasts new technology called Opera Turbo and it is designed to speed up browsing experience for slower connections, up to 8 times faster according to Opera.

I like Opera, but must admit that it is not as easy for me to customize as Firefox, which is what I use 99% of the time. Opera is very popular in Europe and they also have a great mobile browser, Opera Mini. You can download Opera here and can download Opera Mini here. I really like Opera Mini.

Rockmelt: Yet Another Web Browser »

Just when you thought the web browser market was saturated, someone found a spot where another one could be squeezed in.

Make a little room between Google Chrome and Opera and you can shoehorn RockMelt into the mix. Yes, another way for people to view web pages and possibly another set of standards for which web designers have to prepare.

Rockmelt does have some pretty good backing, however. Do you remember the Netscape browser from the 1990s? The founder of that company, Marc Anderson, is a backer of Rockmelt.

Not much is known about Rockmelt at the moment and their website only has a spot where you can provide your email address to be sent more information. So we will have to wait and see.

At any rate, it faces a pretty packed market that already includes the likes of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari and Flock and a few others.

Internet Security Suites »

Most new computers these days come preloaded with some form of Internet Security, usually McAfee or, *gasp*, Norton.  These are usually in the form of a trial version for up to 15 months with the hopes that, when the trial period is expired you will be so intimidated by the thought of installing a different one that you will just chose to renew.

Granted, it can be a royal pain switching from one Anti-virus / Spyware protection service to another, but sometimes that is exactly what you should do.  If you are not dead-set on continuing to use what was preloaded for you by your PC manufacturer, here are a few other Internet Security Suites that you would do well to at least consider:

Don’t feel that you have to stick with McAffee or Norton just because that is what your PC came loaded with.  You can switch and you might find something better.  All of the products listed above have a fully functional trial so you can test before you buy.

Yahoo OnePlace for Mobile Browsers »

Yahoo is not sitting back waiting for the next bid from Microsoft.  They are launching new products and services. A new addition to the Yahoo Mobile family is called OnePlace and if your phone doubles as a web browser at times, you might want to check this out.

Face it, in their current form the mobile phone browsers are not really good for um.. browsing. Although they are getting better, in most cases you still are better off knowing exactly what you are looking for or exactly where you want to go so you can type in the URL. However, with Yahoo OnePlace, you can quickly and easily bookmark things that you want to have readily available when you are on the Internet using your phone’s browser.

You can do a lot more with it too. It is pretty lightweight so even the clunkiest of phone browsers should have no problem using it.

Good for Yahoo!

GuerrillaMail Temporary E-Mail Addresses »

I came across a really cool site today and wanted to do my part to spread the word. The site is called GuerrillaMail and they will automatically create a temporary e-mail address for you which will stay active for 15 minutes and doesn’t require you to enter a single shred of information.

guerrilla mailWe have all probably been to websites that require you to login before you are allowed access to certain content. You know the drill, you have to first supply a valid e-mail address. Then, they either send your login information to that email address or they send you a validation link on which you have to click so that they know you actually provided a “real” e-mail address.

After you go through this process, you are then granted access to the “hidden” content, which may or may not be worth all this effort. At any rate, they now have your email address and will proceed to flood you with all sorts of offers from third parties or those worthless newsletters which arrive every other day.

Well, the next time this situation arises, go to GuerrillaMail and get for a FREE e-mail address. The beauty of this arrangement is you get the automatically generated email address on the spot and then you automatically go to the inbox for that email address – no login required and no signup. No more creating a Yahoo! or Hotmail account just to serve as a junk email address.
