More Laptops Stolen Containing Personal Data
The Wall Street Journal (requires login) is reporting that more laptops containing sensitive information have been stolen. This time, the thieves apparently broke in to a locked room at the Manhattan offices of Towers Perrin, who in a bizarre twist happens to be in the “risk management” business.
On December 8, Towers Perrin reported that the laptops were stolen on November 27. Police made some arrests on December 28, but have not recovered the missing laptops yet.
Personally, I think that a laptop stolen on December 8 was probably someone’s present on December 25. I wonder if they have checked Ebay yet? Hmmmm.
Last year, our blog (and others) posted numerous times on the identity theft problem and it looks like we will have to set aside some space for this topic in 2007 as well.
One of the more popular posts was the one about the FTC cracking down on word-of-mouth marketing. I had hoped that someone would have been able to explain the sensibility of that crackdown, but no one did. It could very well be that I am off-base with my assumption. If that is the case, I certainly hope someone leaves a comment telling me so.
If you think that I am on target with my thinking in that regard, please tell me that too. At the time I wrote that post, I had comments turned off due to spam, but did get several email on it.
