More Than 1 Million Use Skype VoIP Service
VoIP provider Skype has registered more than 100 million users, the company announced Friday.Noting that the figure was reached in just two and one half years, Skype co-founder and CEO Niklas Zennstrom said in a statement: “Skype has grown in leaps and bounds by making it simple for anyone across the world with an Internet connection to do something they could not do before – talk for as long as they like, to whomever they like for no cost.”
The VoIP firm was bought last September for $2.6 billion by eBay Inc., which noted that Skype’s user base has nearly doubled in that time period. Skype offers free software for free calls between Skype users. A small charge of less than three cents a minute is leveled for Skype callers calling non-Skype people.
