My Blog Log
First, a little housecleaning: In November, we posted about Yahoo! purchasing My Blog Log but actually that was wrong. Yahoo! is apparently in discussions with the owners of MBL and the deal has yet to be finalized. If they do make the purchase, that will be money well spent, IMO. If Yahoo! does not buy MBL, I think I will make an offer. I have a piggy bank and I am not afraid to break it :).
For those of you that do not know, My Blog Log is a Social networking site for bloggers. Think of it as MySpace for bloggers. Anyway, we joined MBL about a month ago and have become addicts very quickly. Our community is growing daily and it has brought us a lot of traffic and subscribers. Woo Hoo!
But, all is not well in MBL paradise. Some MBL members have lost ownership of their communities. In essence, they got hijacked. Once they lost ownership, they were unable to get it back.
Tamar at 10e20.com ran into that problem and figured out a “backdoor” solution and, without a doubt, the MBL staff is working on a permanent fix.
However, what has happened to some of the MBL communities may indicate a trend to be on watch for in 2007: Brand Hijacking. Li at Search Marketing Gurus wrote a great post about this. How many social communities are you affiliated with? What would you do if someone hijacked your account with one of those communities? If your community is attached to your business, the hijacker could, in effect, damage your reputation.
With the proliferation (big word, huh) of Web 2.0, Social networks and more, bloggers should be on the lookout for things like this.

You’re so very right about this situation with regards to hijacking. These days, you don’t even need to hijack an account, all you need to do is create an account, and duplicate the name of the person you wish to do damage on…
I’m actually a member to many social communities myself.
Off topic: You have been tagged =)
