VA Offers Free Credit Monitoring To Breach Victims
Earlier, we posted about the laptop theft and ultimate loss of sensitive data (including Social Security numbers) of 26 million veterans. Now, the VA is offering free credit monitoring to potential victims and this is a great development. They are accepting bids from vendors and hope to have a program in place by mid-August.
Recently, the VA recalled all of its laptops for a security check and are implementing a training program to teach supervisors how to protect data and hopefully prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.
You can bet that theives are more aware of the value of the DATA on a laptop and not just the value of the piece of equipment itself.
