The TJ Maxx database hack carried out against Framingham, Massachusetts based TJX Companies Inc. could put as many as 30% of New Englanders in danger of losing sensitive data.
According to a report on Computer World, the New Hampshire Bankers Association has made that estimate after gathering feedback from its member banks.
Jerry Little serves as the president of the NHBA and said that of its 33 member banks, 11 have reported that they were contacted by credit card companies regarding the use of compromised credit cards. He further said that it appears that all 33 of the NHBA’s members have been affected. The association will compile survey data it receives next week and will then have a better idea of the full scope of the problem.
Computer World reports that, according to Little, there have been significant compromises of personal information based on the reports they have so far.
TJ Maxx web site is offering no new information on this problem. Additionally, I was unable to verify the Computer World report by visiting NHBA’s web site. If you are concerned, contact your bank and/or credit card company.
