New Google Tag Coming Soon

Jill Whalen from HighRankings reports that Google’s Dan Crow announced a new META tag named “unavailable_after” which Google will be using soon.

When the new “unavailable_after” tag is used on a web site page, it will notify Googlebot when that particular page should no longer be crawled. Particularly effective for Limited Time offer pages of a web site or a page that is promoting an upcoming event.

Jill mentions another great way that one could possibly use this tag:

perhaps you write articles that are free for a particular amount of time, but then get moved to a paid-subscription area of your site.

I am sure that the will be much more Internet chatter about this new META tag and other possible ways it could be used, so stay tuned.
