I ran across a great blog post about identity theft and, as we have posted about ID theft before and even pointed out some great software designed to help protect your identity, I was naturally interested.
Who Has Time For This?, gave some nice insight into the identity theft problem and listed some alarming figures:
According to last month’s Harris Interactive study, about 50 million Americans have been informed–mostly by their banks or government–that their personal credentials have been somehow compromised. In addition, nearly 10 million Americans are aware of specific instances in which they were victims of identity theft.
Wow! Those are big numbers that affect you and I. Can you imagine getting a notice in the mail (or a phone call) stating that your personal information has been stolen or compromised? Scary, and highly possible.
We have published articles on creating secure passwords and even mentioned some nice little hardware options for ID protection. But, we have to take this issue seriously or risk becoming a statistic.
