Happy New Year Worm

December 29, 2006

Sending e-postcards is a popular thing these days. Personally, I never read them because I am too suspicious. And it turns out, my suspicion is with good reason.

Currently, there is a spam e-mail campaign sending out “Happy New Year” e-postcards. You must fight the urge to click on the attachment that comes with any email with “Happy New Year” in the subject line. Clicking on the postcard.exe attachment will turn your computer into the latest member of the botnet (translation: your computer will be turned into a zombi that has been taken over via remote control software. It will then start sending large volumes of spam).

F-secure alerted us to this fact in their blog post this morning.
