Is Google Trying to Take Over the Internet?

February 5, 2007

Nick at thewebpreneur pointed out an interesting article written by Robert Cringley and posted on PBS web site.

It comments on Google’s overall activity and ponders the possibility that Google is trying to take control of the Internet. Hmmm. They are giving away a lot of FREE software. Will it be free forever or will they start charging us at some point once we have become addicted?

Well, their software supplying habits are not the subject of the article. It appears that Google controls more of the fiber-optic lines out there than any other organization and they are building new data centers right-and-left, it seems (most recently, they are planning a Google data center in Lenoir, NC).

The article asks the question of “why” Google feels the need to do this and offers some interesting theories as to their overall plan for World Domination ;)!
