Mozilla wants to set a new world record for the highest number of downloads in one 24-hour period. If you visit their site, you can make your pledge to download when told and get… um… nothing – except a great web browser!
I visited Guinness World Records to try to find out the current record holder, but couldn’t find anything on record. If memory serves, I think it was the Netscape Browser when it was originally released and going head-to-head with Internet Explorer.
Anyway, I signed up with Mozilla and the numbers are quickly approaching a million.
Just an update for those who didn’t know, they did it.
“…we now hold a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. From 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008, 8,002,530 people downloaded Firefox 3 and are now enjoying a safer, smarter and better Web.”
Congrats, the more competition in the browser wars the better products we’ll see. And we definitely need it. =)
Hi Mike,
Thanks for mentioning that. We neglected to post an update 🙁 .
Nice article… but I bet that Google’s Chrome browser will really beat out Firefox 3. Most of the Firefox people I know (I’m IE) don’t like version 3.
