No Wonder Bill Gates is Retiring

December 15, 2006

If reports by Raimund Genes, Trend Micro’s CTO, are correct, hackers are selling a Zero-day exploit for Microsoft Vista for a cool $50,000.

Evidently, there are online marketplaces that specialize in auctioning off exploits for popular software (along with credit card numbers, SS numbers and all sorts of other things you can’t find on the shelf at Wal-Mart. Hackers list their discoveries and the code exploit goes to the highest bidder (unless one uses the “Buy It Now” button, I guess).

This possible Vista exploit has not been independently verified, so I am sure all the big boys will be checking it out to see if it is a legitimate flaw.

If it is an actual vulnerability, Microsoft has to be pulling their hair out.
