No, this is not a broken record. More computers were stolen containing. This time, only about 110 people are affected. However, the disturbing thing is that the computers belonged to the Federal Trade Commission. In case you aren’t familar with them, they are the ones responsible for protecting Americans from fraud and identity theft 8O.
Additionally, the Energy Department was hacked and about 1,500 employees and contractors had their data stolen. Then, the Agriculture Department was hacked and possibly lost another 26,000 sensitive records. Lastly, the Navy says the personal data of about 28,000 sailors was found on an open web site, availble for anyone to view. Add these numbers to the VA’s report of 26.5 million records lost and you come up with 26,055,610 Social Security numbers, addresses, names, etc. floating around.
The FTC computers belonged to staff attorneys. They were stolen from a locked vehicle last week (locks only keep the good people out).
