Reuters reports that Samsung announced a new cell phone that holds the title of World’s Thinnest Phone. This new phone measures 5.9 millimeters thick. Being an ignorant American and, therefore, “metrically challenged” I had to convert that measurement into inches. If any other readers are in the same boat, the phone is 0.23″ thin or about a quarter of an inch ;).
Wow! I think you could almost shave with that thing.
This phone is part of the Ultra II family which include the models U600 and the U700. These will be available sometime during the first quarter.
I personally won’t be rushing out to get one of these things. First, I will probably not be able to afford the inflated price that it will carry (remember when the Motorola Razr first came out?). Second, I don’t want something that will fracture if I squeeze it too hard. My wife has a Razr and I hate it. It does not conform to my bulbous head and I am afraid to use it while standing on ceramic tile or concrete lest mean old Mr. Gravity should decide to take it.
My cell phone gets plenty of use and I need something a little more durable. Don’t get me wrong, I do not want to feel like I am carrying an 18volt cordless drill on my hip, but I do want a phone that has a little girth, not one that will cost me a trip to the cell phone repair shop because I dropped it onto a plush, cushy pillow.
So, who wants the world’s thinnest phone? If you do, be on the lookout for this one by Samsung.
